How to Counter Basculegion in Pokémon Champions

Basculegion sprite

Basculegion is the scaling sweeper on the Pokémon Champions verified-teams ladder — Adaptability lifts STAB to 2×, Last Respects climbs 50 BP for every one of Basculegion's own teammates that has fainted, and Wave Crash through 112 Atk cleans up what Last Respects does not. The dominant build gets scarier the longer the match goes. The 65 Def / 75 SpD splits are the cracks, and the Water / Ghost typing is weak 2× to Electric, Grass, Ghost, and Dark — +1 Dark priority and an Electric breaker are the two lanes that close the trade before Last Respects is 100+ BP. This guide covers how to counter Basculegion in Pokémon Champions with meta pieces that already carry successful teams of their own.

What the meta Basculegion actually breaks

Last Respects is the win condition. 50 BP per one of Basculegion's own teammates that has fainted, stacked on a 50 BP base, Adaptability doubles STAB to 2×, and the move is Ghost — neutral or super-effective against the entire roster except the Normal types that are immune and the Dark types that resist. After two of Basculegion's side have gone down, Last Respects is at 150 BP through 112 Atk, and the closer you bring to revenge Basculegion is chip that fuels the next click.

The Scarf plan is the tell. Basculegion wants the back half of its own side to go down, then clean up with Last Respects and Aqua Jet. Choice Scarf lifts Basculegion's 78 base Speed by 1.5× — the equivalent of a 117-base attacker — which outruns most of the unscarfed meta, and Aqua Jet covers the 78-and-below tier that Scarf does not already clean up.

The SpD / Def splits are the window. 65 / 75 bulk on the Ghost side folds to one clean Electric or Dark hit at +1 priority — Basculegion is a breaker, not a tank.

Your cleanest answers

Kingambit is the priority Dark lane, and it is the reason a Choice Scarf Last Respects chain never actually resolves into match point. Sucker Punch is +1 priority Dark at 70 BP, 2× super-effective on Ghost, and Kingambit's 135 Atk through Basculegion's 65 Def closes in a single click on a full-HP Basculegion off the popular Adamant Defiant build. The Dark STAB lifts Sucker Punch past the 2HKO threshold; Aqua Jet's +1 priority Water coming back is neutral on Steel / Dark and chip Kingambit's 100 / 120 physical bulk absorbs comfortably.

Archaludon is the Electric breaker, and Electro Shot is the cleanest special answer through Basculegion's Water side. Electric is 2× on Water and 1× on Ghost for a 2× net, and Archaludon's 125 SpA through Basculegion's 75 SpD lands well into 2HKO range off the Leftovers Modest popular build. Archaludon's 85 base Speed loses to Scarf Basculegion but sits ahead of the Mystic Water row — and on the Scarf matchup, Archaludon's 90 / 130 / 65 bulk absorbs a Wave Crash through the Water resist while Electro Shot clicks back.

Pitfalls

  • Don't sack Basculegion's teammates for free chip. Last Respects scales off Basculegion's own fainted allies — every partner you knock out in front of Basculegion lifts the BP by 50 for every click that follows. Pivot around the Basculegion partner; leave it at low HP but alive, then commit the Electric or Dark answer to Basculegion directly.
  • Don't lean on Normal-type Fake Out. Normal is 0× on Ghost — Incineroar Fake Out fails outright against Basculegion, and neither the flinch nor the chip actually lands. Maushold's Population Bomb is also 0× on the Ghost typing. Fake Out pressure only works on Basculegion's partner; bring the Electric or Dark click to Basculegion itself.
  • Don't switch the chipped Ghost resist in. Dark resists Ghost 0.5×, Normal is immune — but neither resistance applies to Wave Crash, the Water STAB that breaks the Dark pivot on the switch turn. Keep the Kingambit or Sneasler answer healthy; do not pivot into an 80% HP Dark type expecting Last Respects to be the only click.
